Writing: Monthly update for August 2020

Author Header

Happy September!

Hello friends!

Who’s ready for Halloween?! I know I am. Ready to kiss summer goodbye and welcome fall with open arms!

August was an interesting month. We were struck pretty hard by the derecho that swept across Midwest. The corn fields around us were flattened, silos, barns, and trees were ripped from the ground and many people were left without power for two weeks or more. We spent about 20-30 minutes after our power went out bailing out our sump pumps because the little back up couldn’t keep up with the amount of rain we got. But we were lucky enough to get our power back in about 48 hours. Only lost a little food in the fridge, freezer and some in the deep freeze.

Here’s just a couple of pictures outside our house right after the rain stopped.

I hope any of you who went through this came out on the other side okay. I hope September is awesome for everyone!

Thanks for everything!

Meet Cute:

I hesitate to call this the monthly meet cute but this is the second month in a row. So… I’m on my way to making it monthly. If you missed last month’s meet cute, click on the KEEP READING link below. After you finish reading ROAD TRIP, there’s a button at the bottom of the page you can click to read THERE YOU ARE!

There You Are (Meet Cute #1)

“I can’t believe you agreed to let Violet come with us.” One girl in a SUV load of guys? I don’t like the idea one bit. The fact her brother agreed to it still has my head spinning.

“What? It’s not like any of them are stupid enough to try anything. They know if they do I’ll kill them. And if I don’t, you will.”

“Of course.” But if Jace knew why I’d kill them for trying anything with her, I’d be the one with his hands around my throat.

“Besides, Finn’s bringing his girlfriend. The two of them can stick together.”

“Actually, Finn’s not coming,” Spencer says.

“What? Since when?” Jace asks.

“Since about five seconds ago.” Spencer holds up his phone showing us the text from Finn.

“Well, she still has us,” Jace says putting an elbow in my ribs.

Comment below and let me know what you thought of this month’s Meet Cute! I love hearing from you!

Read in August:

Did some research this month on short stories and novellas. Discovered I’m a fan of Jessa Kane. All her books are around 80 pages, well written with fantastic characters. She can do so much with very few words. That’s my jam!

What did you read in August? Find any new favorites?

Currently Reading:

Current Romance WIPs:

Forcing Fate – It’s LIVE! If you haven’t already, grab a copy now! You can also read for free with your Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Readers are loving to hate Evan. I think you will, too!

Love on Luke and Main (Love on Main, #1 A Small Town romance series) – Have you read Reunited yet? If you have, then you’re familiar with the female love interest in this one! Haley returns to her hometown after a tragic divorce she’s kicking herself for knowing she could have avoided. Back home, in Towering Pines, she connects with Luke, who had an epic crush on her back in high school she never knew about. Because, being four years younger than her, she never even knew he existed.

Also, look for another familiar from the Fate series in this one. (Hint: You have to read FORCING FATE to meet him!)

My Dance with Death (Part of the VAMPErotica VOL 2 “Bloody Fairy Tales” anthology) –

In August, I joined a group of authors writing for an anthology of short stories. To catch you up, here are the updates I posted on my Facebook page! UPDATE 2 INCLUDES A TEASER!

Update 1:

So, I’m going to try something a little different. Writing a Vampire short story for this anthology. It is erotica, also not normally my thing but the application came up, I got the idea for a fairy tale to retell, so I went for it! 😀 It will be out December 18th. The preorder will be live soon. You can add it to your Goodreads list now!

VAMPErotica VOL 2 Fairy Tales Book Cover.jpg

I’ll be retelling a gender bent version of The Twelve Dancing Princesses. So I’ll have twelve dancing princes. But I’ll only follow one of them, and the human who happened upon them, in this short.

If you’ve seen Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, I was inspired by the Fairy King’s dance.

I hope you all are excited for this. There are eleven other authors in VOL 2 of this anthology with me. I can’t wait to see what they come up with for their retellings! Should be a fun time!

Update 2:

The preorder for the anthology I’m writing for is LIVE!

VAMPErotica VOL 2 “Bloody Fairy Tales”

The title of my short is MY DANCE WITH DEATH, a gender bent retelling of The 12 Dancing Princesses. 😀

“I can never go home again, can I?” I ask him as he takes my hand and leads me in time to the ghostly lullaby. All at once, I need to leave but never want to be anywhere but in his arms again.

“Not if I have anything to say about it.” His lips part in a wicked grin.

That’s when I see them.

The truth. The proof.

He’s one of them.

The Twelve.

Update 3:

I made a cover for my Vampire short story yesterday!

Writing this has been an amazing experience. I had trouble falling asleep last night thinking about writing more short stories and more fantasy/paranormal stories. For those of you that have been with me for a long time know that I started out writing fantasy. I have a couple finished fantasy books and several rough/nearly finished drafts. I’ve been missing them lately.

I’d love to know what you all think of this. Would any of you be interested in seeing me publish more fantasy stories? (They’re all romance, btw.)

Word Count:

I was all over the place in August. Still am. I’m trying to focus on drafting the next series, LOVE ON MAIN but the Vampire short and the meet cute took over. I love all my projects too much! I need help lol

The End

Thanks for reading! Keep moving forward!
